Ram Kapoor is known for being one of the most versatile actors in the industry, with a career spanning television and films. He’s now preparing for the release of his new drama series Khalbali Records, where he plays the lead role. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Ram shared what drew him to the project and revealed a surprising personal connection with his dad.
In Khalbali Records, Ram’s character is an arrogant and sometimes egoistic music label owner. When asked if it was the character that made him sign on, Ram explained, “When I look at a project, I consider everything. I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I can choose my work. Many actors don’t have that luxury and take whatever comes their way because opportunities can be unpredictable.
Since I have the privilege of picking my projects, I always make sure everything feels right for me. With Khalbali Records, everything clicked— the character is strong, the concept is new and refreshing, and the script was excellent. What really moved me was the father-son storyline. I related to it deeply because I had a very powerful, successful father, and it took me many years to earn his respect. That personal connection made me excited to take on this role.”
He also shared that he was drawn to working with the director, Devanshu Singh, whose elder brother was a writer for the film Udaan, which Ram worked on over a decade ago. “That made the project even more special to me,” Ram added.
When asked if there were any roles he regretted, Ram admitted that there were a few, though he didn’t want to name them. “In a career that spans over 20 or 25 years, there are always ups and downs. You’ll have projects you love, and others that you regret. I won’t mention specific projects because I don’t want to hurt anyone involved.”
