Did You Know? Ranveer Allahbadia Is Represented by Ex-Chief Justice’s Son, Abhinav Chandrachud, in India’s Got Latent Controversy
Ranveer Allahbadia has recently been in the spotlight for a controversial remark he made on Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. The podcaster, known for hosting many famous celebrities and politicians, is now facing heavy criticism. As he deals with this legal trouble, let’s take a look at the lawyer representing him in court.
Who Is Representing Ranveer Allahbadia?
Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, is being defended by Abhinav Chandrachud, a well-respected lawyer in the Bombay High Court. But who is he?
Abhinav Chandrachud comes from a highly reputed legal family. He is the son of former Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud. However, despite his family’s legacy, Abhinav has built his own name in the legal world through hard work and expertise.
Abhinav Chandrachud’s Background and Achievements
Abhinav has an impressive educational background. He graduated from Mumbai’s Government Law College in 2008 and later earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School as a Dana Scholar. He further pursued a Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.) and a Master of the Science of Law (J.S.M.) from Stanford Law School as a Franklin Family Scholar.
Before returning to India, he worked as an associate attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, a prestigious international law firm. Apart from practicing law, he is also a writer. His books, Republic of Rhetoric: Free Speech and the Constitution of India (2017) and Supreme Whispers: Conversations with Judges of the Supreme Court of India 1980-1989 (2018), provide deep insights into the Indian legal system. He has also written opinion pieces for major newspapers.
Commitment to Ethics
Abhinav Chandrachud is known for his strong ethics. His father, D.Y. Chandrachud, once shared an interesting story about him. The former Chief Justice had asked his sons to argue cases in the Supreme Court so he could see them more often. However, they refused, believing it was important to maintain professional integrity while their father held the country’s highest judicial position.
What Happened on India’s Got Latent?
The controversy started when Ranveer Allahbadia, who has over 10 million YouTube followers, asked a contestant a highly inappropriate question:
“Would you rather watch your parents have sx every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”*
This question sparked massive outrage, and Ranveer later issued a public apology, saying that comedy is not his strength.
On February 10, a complaint was filed against Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, comedian Samay Raina, Jasprit Singh, Ashish Chanchlani, and the show’s organizers. The complaint was submitted to the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, accusing them of using abusive language on the show.
Now, all eyes are on this case as it unfolds in court.
