Pankaj Kapur’s TV Career
Pankaj Kapur, a National Award-winning actor, became well-known through television. Though he started in theater, he became a household name in 1985 with the TV show Karamchand, where he played a detective. He’s also famous for roles in Office Office, Zabaan Sambhalke, Phatichaar, and Mohandas B.A.L.L.B.
Success in Bollywood and Hollywood
Beyond TV, Kapur has enjoyed a long and successful Bollywood career, debuting in 1982 with Shyam Benegal’s Arohan. He won National Awards for movies like Ek Doctor Ki Maut and Raakh, and starred in memorable films like Maqbool, Dharm, Khamosh, The Blue Umbrella, and more. In 2011, he directed Mausam, a romantic drama featuring his son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Pankaj Kapur also appeared in the Hollywood film Gandhi alongside Ben Kingsley in 1982.
Recently, Kapur made his OTT debut in the Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, starring alongside Naseeruddin Shah.
Pankaj Kapur’s Personal Life
Pankaj Kapur’s personal life has seen its ups and downs. He married actress Neeliima Azim at 21, and they had a son, Shahid Kapoor. However, they later divorced, and Kapur married actress Supriya Pathak. Supriya’s father, a Bollywood tailor, once designed for superstar Rajesh Khanna.
Growing up, Shahid Kapoor had a strained relationship with his father, as Pankaj and Neeliima separated when he was young. But over time, the father and son have managed to heal their bond. Today, Pankaj Kapur is recognized for his four-decade career and his versatile roles across various mediums.
