Seema Pahwa Slams Industry, Calls Training Essential for Actors

Gangubai Kathiawadi’s Seema Pahwa says teaching acting to untrained actors is a waste of money: ‘Our industry is not about…’

In a recent honest conversation, Seema Pahwa shared her views, saying it’s better to hire trained actors instead of spending money to teach newcomers. She also made some surprising comments about the current state of the film industry.

Seema Pahwa speaks out

Seema Pahwa, who has worked in theatre, television, and films, and even directed Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi, also conducts acting workshops for new actors. However, she feels it’s a waste of money to train people who aren’t already skilled in acting. Seema also said that the industry today is no longer just about art.

In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Seema revealed that sometimes filmmakers approach her to train new actors through workshops. But she often says no.

When asked why, Seema explained that it’s better to give roles to already trained actors instead of spending time and money teaching people who don’t know how to act. She said, “Give the deserving ones a chance. What new thing will these untrained actors bring to cinema? Why waste money and investment?”

Seema talks about struggles of talented actors

During the same chat, Seema shared that many talented actors, even after working hard and spending a lot on their training, struggle to find good roles. Some even take up small jobs just to survive. She added that while they may feel bad about not getting acting work, their love for acting never dies.

Seema also made a bold statement, saying, “Let’s not fool ourselves. Our industry is not about art anymore, it’s about business.”

Talented actors often overlooked

Seema pointed out that many trained actors, even those who studied at top acting schools, often don’t get work. She said, “I know someone who is a trained actor and theatre artist, but they had to leave the city because they weren’t getting any offers.”

Seema Pahwa’s upcoming project

On the work front, Seema Pahwa will next be seen in Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film, directed by Karan Sharma, is set to release in theaters on May 9, 2025.
