Shah Rukh Khan, the King of Bollywood, has given us many unforgettable movies. One of them is Baazigar, a film that is still loved by fans. Now, the film’s writer, Robin Bhatt, has shared an interesting story — SRK agreed to do Baazigar only after Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar had turned it down. But he had one clear condition: he would do the movie only if the script was not changed.

In a chat with Friday Talkies, Robin Bhatt, who is the younger half-brother of Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, shared a fun memory. He said that one day he got a call asking if he had seen the movie A Kiss Before Dying. Robin replied that he hadn’t seen it, but he had read the original novel, and he thought it could be turned into a great movie. He was then asked to write a screenplay because directors Abbas-Mustan wanted to make the film. That’s how Baazigar started.

Robin also talked about the challenges they faced while casting. Since the story was different — where the hero was actually the villain — it was hard to find an actor ready to take the risk.

First, they approached Akshay Kumar, but he said no. Then they spoke to Salim Khan about casting Salman Khan, but he also refused. That’s when Robin Bhatt realized that only one actor was fearless enough to take such a bold role — Shah Rukh Khan.

Robin remembered meeting Shah Rukh Khan often at Hotel Villa, where both of them worked on different projects. SRK used to come there for meetings about Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, while Robin worked on his own films.

During their casual talks, Robin noticed that Shah Rukh had a very different way of thinking compared to others. So, Robin decided to tell him the story of Baazigar. Surprisingly, when Robin finished narrating just the first half of the story (till the interval), SRK immediately said yes to the movie. He didn’t even wait to hear the second half!

However, Shah Rukh Khan made one thing very clear. He told the filmmakers, “I will do the film only if you keep the script exactly as it is. Don’t try to justify the character or make him look good.”

His strong decision gave confidence to directors Abbas-Mustan to stick to the original idea without making any changes. And as we know, the film became a huge hit!
