Shark Tank India 4: Anupam Mittal Jokes About Co-Judge, Says ‘Hum Log Ki Banti Nahi Hai’
The latest episode of Shark Tank India 4 featured a unique pitch—a men’s makeup brand called Yaan Men. The founder, Rahul Shah from Ahmedabad, introduced his brand, aimed at breaking the stigma around men using makeup.
Rahul Shah’s Pitch: Makeup for Indian Men
Rahul explained how his overseas friends introduced him to the idea of men using makeup. However, in India, many men hesitate due to societal judgment. He said,
“In India, men would rather wash their faces with just water than apply makeup. They think it will make them less masculine.”
💰 His ask: ₹60 lakhs for 6% equity.
A Debate on Men and Makeup
The discussion turned into a debate about society’s views on men wearing makeup:
🔹 Vineeta Singh shared her experience in the UK, where even male bankers use concealer, while in India, convincing men to use sunscreen is tough. “Even in 2024, the men in my life hesitate to use skincare products,” she said.
🔹 Aman Gupta had a different view, saying many men in his circle are open to grooming and self-care.
🔹 Namita Thapar pointed out that in India, makeup is often linked to the LGBTQ+ community, making some men hesitant. She asked, “Do you think this perception stops men from using makeup?”
Rahul admitted that his brand avoids the word “makeup” in its marketing, focusing instead on how looking good can boost confidence.
Sharks Question Rahul’s Background
The sharks then asked about Rahul’s business approach. He comes from a ₹500 crore business family but wants to build his own brand.
🔹 He balances losses in Yaan Men with earnings from his consulting business, where he makes ₹20–25 lakhs per month.
🔹 When asked why he needed funding despite his wealthy background, Rahul said he was ready to scale down his consulting work to focus on Yaan Men.
Anupam’s Joke and the Final Deal
While Vineeta, Namita, and Peyush Bansal stepped out, Aman Gupta and Anupam Mittal made offers.
🔹 Rahul asked if both sharks could invest together.
🔹 Anupam joked, “Hum log ki banti nahi hai, banane ka paisa lagta hai” (We don’t get along, and it takes money to fix that).
📌 The final deal: After negotiations, Rahul sealed a surprising deal with Anupam—₹1 crore for 20% equity, leaving the other sharks shocked.
