Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently shared a funny story about a time he almost said no to acting—all because of a unique script idea from his close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar.

At the WAVES Summit 2025 in Mumbai, Shah Rukh joined actress Deepika Padukone and Karan Johar for an open discussion about life and cinema. During the conversation, SRK revealed a moment when he considered stepping back from Bollywood. The reason? Karan wanted him to wear a skirt throughout an entire film!

SRK’s Reaction to the Role

Shah Rukh explained,

“A few years ago, Karan came to my house with a script. The character had to wear a skirt the whole time. That’s the only time I really wanted to step back. It was a period film where men used to wear skirts. But that’s different from me, an androgynous guy, wearing one!”

His hilarious answer left the audience in splits.

Karan’s Comeback and SRK’s Quick Wit

Karan tried to defend the choice, saying,

“It was the character’s costume!”

To this, Shah Rukh replied jokingly,

“Then you wear the skirt and play the character yourself!”

This playful moment showed the deep bond and fun friendship between the two stars, who have worked on big films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and My Name Is Khan. But this was the first time Shah Rukh had rejected one of Karan’s scripts.

A Sweet Compliment for Deepika

During the same event, Shah Rukh also had something heartfelt to say about Deepika Padukone, who recently became a mother.

“I believe the best role she’s going to play now is that of a mother to little Dua. She’s going to be a wonderful mom,” he said warmly.

On the work front, Shah Rukh is getting ready for his next big film, King, directed by Siddharth Anand. What makes it even more special is that his daughter, Suhana Khan, will be starring with him for the first time.
