Border 2: Is Suniel Shetty Upset About Not Being in the Film? His Answer Will Touch Your Heart
The 1997 war film Border is still one of the most loved movies in Indian cinema. Now, its sequel Border 2 is on the way and fans are very excited. Sunny Deol will return in a strong role, and the film will also feature young stars like Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Ahan’s father, Suniel Shetty, played a key role in the original film. He acted as Captain Bhairon Singh, a brave soldier who gave his life in the 1971 India-Pakistan war. So naturally, many people are wondering how Suniel feels about not being in Border 2.
In a recent interview with India Today, Suniel gave a very honest and emotional reply. He said, “Yes and no… No, because my son is doing it. If Bhairon Singh isn’t in the film, at least my son Ahan is.”
Suniel said he’s extremely proud of Ahan joining the cast. For him, it feels like things have come full circle. He also praised the new cast of the movie. “All my favorite actors are in this film,” he said. He spoke highly of Sunny Deol, saying they share great on-screen chemistry. He also thanked Varun Dhawan for guiding Ahan and treating him like a younger brother.
“Varun and Ahan are magic together,” Suniel said with a smile. “Varun really looks after Ahan. Every time Ahan comes home from the shoot, he tells me, ‘Papa, Varun is such a great guy.’ That’s what real relationships are about. There’s work for everyone—what we need is to support each other and help the film industry grow.”
Suniel also said that Ahan is super excited to work with international star Diljit Dosanjh. “He’s acting like a fanboy!” Suniel joked, adding that he himself can’t wait to watch the movie in theaters.
When Ahan’s role was announced, he posted an emotional message on Instagram. “Border is not just a film—it’s a legacy, a dream, and a powerful emotion,” he wrote. He remembered how his mom was pregnant with him when she visited the Border set years ago. That moment, he said, unknowingly inspired his love for movies and the military. He ended his message by thanking his dad: “Papa, everything I am is because of you. I’ll try my best to honor your legacy.”
Meanwhile, Suniel Shetty will be seen next in Kesari Veer, which hits theaters on May 23.
