Supreme Court to Hear BeerBiceps’ Plea to Merge FIRs on February 18
The Supreme Court will hear YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s plea on February 18 (Tuesday) regarding multiple FIRs filed against him over his comments on India’s Got Latent.
Why Was an FIR Filed Against Ranveer Allahbadia?
The controversy started when Samay Raina’s comedy show, India’s Got Latent, went viral for the wrong reasons. A clip from the show, where Ranveer Allahbadia made inappropriate remarks, sparked public outrage. Soon after, authorities took legal action against several people on the panel, including Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, Ashish Chanchlani, and Jasprit Singh.
Ranveer Allahbadia Moves to Supreme Court
Following the FIRs, Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, approached the Supreme Court last week. He requested the court to merge all the FIRs into one case and sought protection from multiple legal actions.
His lawyer, senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, asked the court for an urgent hearing since Assam Police had summoned Allahbadia. However, a bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar declined the urgent request. Instead, they scheduled the hearing for February 18, saying it would take two to three days to process the case.
Allahbadia Summoned by Maharashtra Cyber Cell
Apart from the Supreme Court case, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned Allahbadia for the third time. He is expected to appear on February 24.
Earlier, the Mumbai Police had asked him to appear on February 13 and 14, but he failed to show up.
Police Visit Ranveer Allahbadia’s Residence
On February 14, a team from the Khar police station went to Ranveer Allahbadia’s residence in Versova after he skipped his second Cyber Cell summons. They were also accompanied by Assam Police, who are investigating a separate complaint against him. However, when they reached his home, it was locked, and he was unreachable on his phone.
Now, all eyes are on February 18, when the Supreme Court will decide whether all the FIRs against him should be merged into one case.
