The Rookie Season 7 Ending Explained: How Monica’s Comeback Sets Up Season 8
Season 7 of The Rookie has officially come to an end — and what a thrilling finale it was! The police drama wrapped up with some big surprises, especially the return of a major character that sets the stage for an exciting Season 8.
The finale featured the return of two major villains, and unlike most seasons, this time the bad guys won. John Nolan worked with Harper to track down Oscar Hutchinson, while Lucy tried to adjust to her new work schedule. Meanwhile, Tim began to think about giving his romance with Lucy another shot.
But the biggest twist came with Monica’s unexpected return. Although she was barely seen throughout Season 7, she made a powerful comeback right at the end.
In one scene, FBI agent Matt Garza (from The Rookie: Feds) called a meeting with Nolan, Grey, Angela, Wesley, and other top law enforcement officials. He revealed that Monica had made a shocking deal to gain her freedom.
Garza explained that someone had stolen highly sensitive intel from an NSA facility, and both the FBI and the Justice Department agreed that the potential risk to national security was too great if the information got out. So, they decided to make a deal with the person behind it — and that person was Monica.
Monica used the stolen intel to pressure the government into giving her immunity. In short, she got exactly what she wanted.
At the end of the episode, Monica walked into the room with a sly smile and asked, “Miss me?” — hinting that her story is far from over.
This big reveal suggests that Monica will be a key character in The Rookie Season 8. If you remember, she briefly appeared earlier in Season 7, Episode 11, when she hired someone to steal a government ID.
