TMKOC Exclusive: Khushi Mali Spills Secrets on Mandar Chandwadkar

Khushi Mali on Joining Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Her Journey as Sonu

Khushi Mali joined Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in October 2024 to play the role of Sonu. In an exclusive chat with Apne Tv, she shared her experiences, including her bond with co-stars Nitish Bhaluni (Tapu), Mandar Chandwadkar, and others.

Pressure of Taking on Sonu’s Role

Khushi revealed feeling nervous initially when stepping into the well-known role of Sonu. She said, “Sonu is a household name. Every Indian parent sees Sonu as their daughter. At first, I was worried about how I’d do justice to the role.”

However, her fears eased as viewers welcomed her warmly. “The audience showed me so much love and support. Their acceptance removed the pressure I felt. I’m truly grateful to them,” she added.

Off-Screen Bond with Tapu Sena

Speaking about her bond with Nitish Bhaluni (Tapu), Khushi said their real-life connection mirrors their on-screen friendship. “From the first mock shoot, I noticed how kind and genuine Nitish is. This bond isn’t limited to him. Everyone in Tapu Sena is amazing,” she shared.

Khushi also mentioned how the group made her feel at home. “We eat lunch together, spend time on set, and it never felt like I was new. Tapu and Sonu’s bond is pure, and we always support each other,” she explained.

Storyline on Sonu and Tapu’s Marriage

The actress talked about the storyline focusing on Sonu and Tapu’s potential marriage. She said, “The storyline is relatable. Parents naturally start worrying about their children’s marriage as they grow older. Sonu and Tapu’s friendship feels real—like when Sonu calls Tapu even at 2 am for help.”

Khushi hinted at exciting upcoming episodes but didn’t reveal much. “The storyline surprises us too. But it’s going to be fun and entertaining,” she assured.

Bond with the Bhide Family

Khushi expressed her affection for her on-screen parents, Sonalika Joshi and Mandar Chandwadkar. She shared, “I call them Aai and Baba off-screen too. Their names are even saved as Aai and Baba in my phone. They’ve made me feel so comfortable.”

Gratitude for the Cast and Crew

Khushi also spoke about her gratitude for the entire team, including producer Asit Modi. “Everyone has been so welcoming, from Dilip sir to the entire cast. I look forward to scenes where we all work together because it’s so much fun,” she said.

She mentioned how senior actors inspired her. “I used to watch Dilip sir closely to learn expressions and reactions. Mandar sir has been like a father to me, always helping me improve,” she concluded.

Khushi’s journey in the show reflects her love for acting and her gratitude toward her co-stars and the audience.
