Indian cricketer Virat Kohli surprised everyone on May 12 when he announced his retirement from Test cricket through an Instagram post. Many fans and celebrities reacted to the news, including actor Anil Kapoor, who also shared a personal memory from 11 years ago involving Virat and Anushka Sharma.
Anil Kapoor Remembers Meeting Virat Kohli
Anil Kapoor posted a message on his Instagram story, where he re-shared Kohli’s retirement post and talked about the first time he met the cricketer. He wrote:
“We met eleven years ago on a cruise when Anushka was shooting Dil Dhadakne Do.”
Anil said Virat came across as kind, humble, and very down-to-earth, and that this first meeting left a strong impression on him. He also mentioned that he has been admiring Virat from a distance ever since.

Praising Kohli’s Career and Character
Anil Kapoor praised Virat for his discipline, passion, and the joy and pride he brought to the country with his cricket achievements. Although they haven’t met again since that cruise, Anil said he’s always been cheering for him and added:
“You may have retired from Test cricket, but you can never retire from people’s hearts.”
Virat Kohli’s Retirement Announcement
Virat Kohli recently shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, along with a photo of him holding his bat in a stadium. In his caption, he looked back at his debut 14 years ago in Test cricket. He admitted that the decision to retire wasn’t easy, but he believes it’s the right time.
“I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for my teammates, and for everyone who supported me along the way,” he wrote.
