Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, spoke about the moment in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on May 13. He said, “Some people thought we were upset, but that’s not true. Anna’s stylist Karla Welch and I are actually good friends and we’ve known each other for years. We even talked that night. Zendaya sent Anna flowers because it was her first Met Gala.”
Roach was also caught on camera in a fun moment during another interview with Hello Beautiful. When he saw Anna’s look, he joked, “I’m dying because she’s wearing Zendaya’s outfit! I’m so glad we arrived early.” But he made it clear afterward that both women looked amazing and that their styles were inspired by different fashion icons.
Roach explained that Zendaya’s outfit was a nod to Diana Ross and Bianca Jagger, while Anna was inspired by Yoko Ono. “They both looked beautiful and had their own unique looks,” he said.
Anna Sawai, who stars in Shogun, also responded kindly on Instagram. She wrote, “I know people have a lot to say. Trust me, I admire Zendaya too. But I really love my look, so I hope you’re happy for me too.”
